# Taking Pictures: Visual Guide
This article covers what pictures should be taken during the checkin step of most [[Service Lines]]. It is worth noting that many customers do not require these pictures, it is useful to take them for our own quality control purposes. Taking pictures to document what we've received and what it looked like when we got it can prevent a lot of issues.
## **1: Outside of the Package**
The goal is to prove what the package looked like when we received it.

<table>
<tr>
<td><strong>Good</strong>
</td>
<td><strong>Needs Improved</strong>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>The picture is clear.
</td>
<td>Picture should show 3 sides of the box.
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>The whole box can be seen.
</td>
<td rowspan="2" >See below.
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>The shipping label is visible.
</td>
</tr>
</table>
We should always have an orthographic picture of each package that shows the whole box, with the shipping label visible, and 3 sides of the package. If the box is _damaged_ we need some additional pictures as shown below.

## **2: Shipping Label**
![[Pasted image 20240130211037.png]]
There should always be a clear picture of the shipping label that shows the sender, recipient address, and the tracking number as shown above.
Here are some examples of bad:

The above image shows where we took 3 separate pictures of the shipping label. That's better than nothing, but it's not very helpful.
## **3: Packing Slip**
This section applies to any package we open to checkin the contents, whether that is for [[Processes/Prep|Prep]], [[3-Day|returns triage]], or a similar process.
![[Pasted image 20240130211800.png]]
Sometimes the packing slip might be in an envelope on the outside of the package, like shown below.

**Careful:** Any time the information on the packing slip is different from the contents of the package, make a note about that.
## **4: Pictures of the Contents**
The primary goal is to record what we saw when we opened the box in case there are questions about how it was packed, what was inside, or what we received.
For services like [[3-Day]], the pictures we take should also support our commentary about the condition we chose for the item.
Pictures of inspected items should always show the following, unless the contract we have with the customer says otherwise:
1. Show how the item was packed, like what kind of packing material was used.
2. Show the product name and model number or part number, so the picture doesn’t need to be rotated to read it.
3. Prove what we’re saying about the item.
4. Include any serial number we can find, especially if the serial number on the item is different than what it says on the packaging.
### Regardless of service, this should be done in these cases:
1. The packing slip conflicts with the order or what’s in the box.
2. The product we received can’t be identified for some reason, like if there is no model number or anything on it.
3. The product we received is definitely the wrong thing, such as:
1. We received a toaster but we were supposed to get a wheel.
2. We were supposed to get a red toaster but we got a blue one.
3. We were supposed to get ToastMaster Toaster Model A-562 but we got ToastMaster Model B-87676 instead.
